today was a good day...

as i was walking home at about 1 in the afternoon ice cube's song "today was a good day" popped into my head...and i still had half of it left...so, here's a bit about my day...

mandy and i met a couple downtown for lunch at sisters of the road cafe...lance and sandra jean are in the process of becoming 'not-homeless' and sisters is a place that feeds the homeless...you can pay, work for it, or pay into an account that you can draw from...i ate rice and beans (ange now you got me thinkin...) I enjoyed our time with them, i always do, they have a love for people and really seem to enjoy hangin with us...pray for them though, they were pregnant and recently lost the baby...they could really use some encouragement and love...

we road the bus home and went past our 'Peace Corner' in New Columbia to see if we needed to do any trash pickup and we continued to dream and talk about what ministry is exactly going to look like here in NoPo...we walked past the elementary school we have applications into to volunteer at and there were six young men, elementary and middle school age, playing tackle football, but really it seemed 2 of them were playing and the other 4 tried not to get hurt by the 2 big guys...i offered my quarterbacking skills and the game was on...i did my best to spread the ball around and watch the kids have a blast...

then one of them said something to his younger brother in a language that quite obviously wasn't english so i asked him what he said and he said, "i told him i'm going to beat him up when we get home"...while that wasn't exactly the nicest thing a brother could say (sorry mike, i know i've said it to you), i asked him what language and he said, 'i'm african, it was ethiopian.'  i told him that was so awesome and i asked him to teach me and he responded, "no, it's too hard."  

i'm not sure if he was second guessing his teaching ability or my learning ability, but i got a good laugh out of that.  we kept playing and when i started walking home, ice cube started playin in my head...

i got home in time to rake leaves with Mandy and Chance...here's some pics of all the help chance gave
